Despite the very unhelpful forecast, four intrepid souls walked from Cowleaze Wood and as they walked down Shirburn Hill were rewarded with a cessation of the rain and a three hour window of dry weather and often a sunny blue sky. We dodged a muck spreader at the beginning and saw deer from the Oxfordshire Way as we climbed up to Christmas Common. Then down through the woods to the Urn on the Wormsley Estate for our banana break and further through the estate with its many sheep and up and down to Lower Vicars Farm and up past elephant grass into Cowleaze Wood. Lovely views and good company and weren’t we lucky with the weather!

We enjoyed a lovely walk in good weather and conditions from the 15th century church at Ewelme reordered by Alice Chaucer - the poet’s grandaughter and Duchess of Suffolk which is superb to see outside and inside. We walked along the Chiltern Way past medicinal poppies grown under licence and wide-ranging views to the ancient hill fort at Swyncombe Down, then we walked along to The Ridgeway and down to Swyncombe Church - eleventh century - paid for by Normans but built by Saxons - a simpler contract to Ewelme Church. Across parkland, normally with sheep, on up to Ewelme Park and down on a bridleway with wide ranging views to Wittenham Clumps et alia and back across Cow Common with cows on it. A very enjoyable walk with outstanding views, good company and good weather - a joy!

11 of us enjoyed a hilly walk in the Oxfordshire Chilterns with good far-reaching views. We started at Ibstone Common and followed the Chiltern Way steeply down into the Wormsley Estate then steeply up to Northend. Then through a wood and a banana stop before Turville Park Farm and its new calves. A steep climb up to see a good view across the Stonor estate and valley on the way to St Saviours and Turville Heath. Then down an old sunken track through woodland to Holloway Lane and across and up first steeply then gradually to Ibstone Common to complete the 952ft of ascent. Good views, good company and good weather - who could want for more!
